Pooneam Netop! ("Hello, friend!" in Wampanoag)
Wow! What a full few weeks it has been! Between Election Day (our class decided that pizza was the best food in the world!), Apple Day, Halloween, and going on board the Mayflower, we have certainly been busy! We have been learning about adding and subtracting on number lines, frames-and-arrows diagrams, and skip counting in math. In reading, we have been working on visualizing (making a movie in our minds about what we are reading) and using punctuation in our reading and writing. We have also been learning about the 7 Habits. Check out how we synergized during breakfast to make a cube chain!
Probably our favorite has been learning about the history of the Pilgrims and Wampanoag tribe. We have been talking about how different life was then vs. now, and the hardships that the Pilgrims faced on the Mayflower and in their first year in the new land. We even "packed" suitcases (we had to think carefully, because there were no refrigerators or electricity then!), and "set sail" on the Mayflower. We spent a day learning on our "boat" by candlelight, tasted cornmeal mush, and learned about Pilgrim and Wampanoag chores, homes, and clothes. Life was sure different back then! Check out our pictures below :)
