Our first graders have been studying biographies for quite some time - learning about presidents, civil rights leaders, explorers, and many other famous people. We have tied in many skills to this unit- the social skills needed for interviewing someone, writing complete sentences and with varying sentence structure, noticing and recording new information and questions as we read, and even summarizing. They interviewed "famous people" right here at our school and wrote biographies about each other! (During conferences, stop in the hallway by the gym to check out our projects!). Then, each small group was in charge of one biography- reading, summarizing, and sharing their learning with the class. We used an app called Chatterpix to make the books come to life!
