We are really starting to settle into our routines and get back into school mode here in 1D. This week, we were able to start our small group rotations. Starting Monday, we will each have our own reading tickets to help us go to our own independent stations. In our solo reading time, our reading stamina is up to 17 minutes! We hope to get past 20 in the next week. We spent a few days learning about our schema and making connections to our story. We will continue learning about these this week, too:
T-S: Text-to-self connections - when the story reminds us of something in our lives
T-T: Text-to-text connections- when the story reminds us of another story
T-W: Text-to-world connections- when the story reminds us of something in the world
You may start to hear your child using this language when you're reading at night. Reading is all about thinking, and our minds are surely working when we're making connections!
This week, Ms. Dittman will be teaching us all about cause/effect relationships in our stories. In math, we will be learning about combinations of numbers that make 10. We will also get to start our pollination unit, where we'll learn about the parts of a flower, and how insects help pollinate flowers. We'll even get to engineer and create our own hand-pollinators.
Don't forget: Homecoming is on Friday, September 30th. Remember to wear your school colors. We will get out of school at 12:30 on Friday.
